Is there a better name than Bianca Pérez-Mora Macias Jagger? NOPE. I know she was married to rock n roll royalty, but this woman is more than just a fierce jeweled turban and red lips. Bianca has used her fame to get her Angelina Jolie on, mostly in the form of human rights work in Asia, the Middle East, Eurasia, and Central America. Nothing is more fashionable than a clean conscience!
Bianca and that man.
Bianca rocking a 1940s Victory roll, like one of my idols Betty Grable.
DAMN she looks good in a suit.
I love a fabulous caftan paired with healthy hair.
I discovered this woman when I was around 12 years of age. Rita Hayworth, one of the most glamorous movie starlets of yesteryear, is the reason why I've always wanted to be a red head. She was one of the top pin ups, behind the incomparable Betty Grable, of World War II. Sadly, I am unable to pull red hair off, but I know a certain law student in Virginia, ahem Ashley W., who can with finesse.
Do ya'll remember Britney Jean at the height of her fame? Holy Smokes. This is called Summer body inspiration. It's designed to torture me; therefore, I'm buying roller blades and a thigh master!
The fur hat. The broach. The beaded necklace that matches the broach. That beautiful teal, wool dress. And child that shade of lipstick! She was lovely. Absolutely lovely.
If you are a freak, you have already seen this movie. If you're like me, you have seen this because you love film noir. Basic Instinct is one of my favorite movies because it's smart and over the top. Remember, she doesn't like hands in general, she likes when Johnny uses his hands. You can NOT tell me Sharon Stone was not a bad woman in the early 90s. People forget but Sharon Stone used to be a BEAST!
Her nonchalant, icy attitude coupled with her bursting out of the seams sensuality all enhanced the muted wardrobe, and therefore her man-killer persona. Other than Casino, this is Sharon Stone at her best.
1. The White Ensemble
I love white on white. Love it. If you can get the same kind of white, you can look untouchable. Because I'm naturally tan and therefore beautiful, I often do the white on white thing. And kids, nobody cares about the whole white after Labor Day bit. Are Australians not allowed to wear white in December because of our holiday (a holiday corporations don't really observe because we are all drones/worker bees easily replaced)? Nope! Go for it. PS. If you're going to wear a turtle neck dress, make sure the "sleeve" (there is no sleeve, I know, ok?) ends where your collar bone ends. You'll look slimmer I promise.
Did I mention how insane Sharon Stone's body was in this movie?I love how it's all business in the front and then homegirl turns around and you can see her liver and everythang in that dress. Remember, any dress can look cheap if it is sloppy. Stone's dress was tailored within an inch of her life. I bet they sewed her into the dress right before the scene. Generally, I hate cowl necks; however, because the dress is so short and her hair is up, she makes it work. Now boat necks I can get down with!
3. The Casual Scenes
To be honest, this movie is the reason why I bought my fantastic cable knit sweater. I am someone who hates sweaters; I would rather wear three shirts at one time in the winter rather than a clunky thing. It's also very difficult to find non-acrylic sweaters for a decent price these days; however, the thrift store is your sweater savior. I have found hand knit sweaters from Ireland, Italian cashmere, and that nice chunky fisherman sweater that they wear up in New England, all under $5 at the local Goodwill. PS I like the way riding gear looks outside the equestrian world, but I have yet to purchase anything that makes me like like I walk around with a riding crop in my back pocket.
Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowden and the sister of the current Queen of England, Elizabeth, was quite the dish back in her day. Look at that sloping neck! And those shoulders! Snowy white shoulders! *Aside, my golden brown shoulders are prettier but I'm no hater! I just read too many romance novels and they're always talking about snowy white shoulders! Aside over * Those are some pretty seductive eyes she's giving ya'll. Ok technically it's one eyeball; however, it's a very seductive eyeball.
Margie is my polyester around the town goddess. She had tons of boyfriends, spent a lot of money on clothes and vacations, and was definitely apart of the 60s swinging London set. Have ya'll seen the tv movie?! I stole 3 looks from that miniseries alone. Please go watch it. You can thank me later by giving me a Sephora gift card for $25. That should buy me some chapstick.
My favorite picture from Beyonce's awesome tumblr. I'm not even that big a fan and I can't stop looking! Total guilty pleasure. The headscarf, bright makeup, long messy single braid, golden skin, and jewel-toned dress just give me so much. It's a simple shot styled really well. Brazil maybe?
I'll set the stage. September 2008. Bundang, a suburb outside of
Seoul, South Korea. I'm barely paying attention to Fashion Rocks 2007 or 2008 playing on the telly because suffering in the heat and humidity is taking up all my energy. This is the most important aspect of the story. That day I had spent too much on a one-of a kind 1920s-esque drop-waist dress from Japan with crayfish on it; therefore, I had to cut corners and not turn on the aircon. I repeat, I bought a dress that had crayfish on it. I still wear it. With pride. Ok, most important aspect of the story over.
Meanwhile, a rando woman I've never heard of before, but is wearing the most rad gloves and boots,
is introduced and this really haungting beat starts playing while glamorous skeletors start walking down the runway modeling Gucci. Definitely was not
paying attention to Gucci, but was instead mesmorized by this fabulous White lady. Now I'm
obsessed. Ladies and Gents, I present Roisin Murphy.
I LURVE Roisin Murphy. She was doing Lady Gaga before LG bewigged, besequined, and bemeated herself. Yes, I made up two words. Perhaps I should create a cintadictionary. A third word. Heffalumps. A. Boston made up that one so it doesn't count. Roisin takes fashion risks not to make a spectacle out of herself like certain bewigged superstars that I happen to love but do tire of easily, but because she's quite the eccentric. And Irish. But homegirl can rock Gareth Pugh and Victor & Rolf like no other. And her voice is like budda (aka butter). I hate that she's thrust into the indie dance music circuit but I would rather see her there than just on youtube singing to a brush wearing a heavy 1973 seafoam green cocktail gown with maribou feathers like I do every night before slumbering. So I implore you: get to know Roisin Murphy.
I have an aside about a sort of non-mainstream woman in music. For the record, ever since Florence Welch released that racist music video, she's gotten on my nerves. I don't care for her English bohemian hippie soulful Joss Stone thing she's got going on. This is the last time I ever mention that woman again. And Florence, South Carolina sucks (In an Urusula from Little Mermaid voice, "So sad, but true.")
Can we just talk a minute about how that lipstick is lined within an inch of her life?
Aside from the obvious cigarette trope, she looks BAD! I may not have been happy when she took Tonya's man Dr. Zhivago and had his baby (If you have never seen Dr. Zhivago and have a love for Bolshevik-era period films, please drop what you're doing and watch this film or at least read the book), but I will never deny those cheekbones.
